About Oren jacobson
Strategy Consultant, Civic entrepreneur, SOCIAL INNOVATOR, POLICY ADVISOR, Community Leader
Oren Jacobson is the grandson of a Polish Jew born in the early 1920s. Of the 3.5 million Jews in Poland before WWII, only 10% survived. There were 40,000 Jews in his grandfather’s hometown before the war. Fewer than 300 survived. Oren is moved by the fact that his life is a statistical improbability. This truth guides and motivates Oren, and his deep pride in his Jewish identity instills in him a sense of duty to do what is necessary in the fight for justice.
Oren is a progressive civic entrepreneur and organizer whose work spans local to international engagement. He has emerged as one the most trusted young Jewish leaders in the progressive community, known for his strong, clear voice in the fight against antisemitism and white supremacy, and for consistently showing up and organizing as an ally.
He holds a Master’s in International Relations from the University of Chicago, a Master's in Economics and Policy Analysis from DePaul University, and an MBA from Regis University. As a multi-sector consultant, Oren's professional work spans startups, Fortune 150 companies, non-profits, advocacy, and policy advising.
He is the former National Chapter Development Director for the New Leaders Council, the largest leadership development organization in the progressive movement. In 2015, Oren co-founded and now serves as the Co-Executive Director of Men4Choice, an organization that works to activate, educate, and mobilize male allies in the fight for reproductive freedom. And, in 2020 he helped launch Project Shema with a focus on helping the Jewish community build bridges with the progressive movement.
Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director
Originally founded in Illinois in 2015 as a state PAC, Men4Choice works to engage, educate, and activate more men into the fight to protect and expand reproductive freedom and justice. Men4Choice is proud to have played a role in passing some of the most progressive reproductive rights legislation in America over the last several years, including HB40 and the RHA in Illinois. Men4Choice now has a 501(c)3 educational arm, a 501(c)4 advocacy arm, and is working to expand its efforts beyond Illinois.
Concerns over growing antisemitism in the American progressive movement, and whether progressives support the right and need for Jewish national self-determination in the state of Israel, have understandably elevated fears inside the American Jewish community.
Named after the Hebrew word which means "to hear" or "listen", Project Shema offers a series of educational trainings designed to help the American Jewish community better understand the progressive movement.
Project Shema seeks to improve Jewish advocacy efforts to address these existential issues and rebuild the bonds of trust between those who share common values and hopes for the future.

Advisory Council - Chicago
For Jews, the phrase "Tikkun Olam" has powerful meaning. It is a concept defined by acts of kindness performed to perfect or repair the world. Where there is poverty, we must act in the spirit of Tikkun Olam. That is why Oren joined the Advisory Council of Avodah in Chicago.
Avodah strengthens the Jewish community’s fight against the causes and effects of poverty in the United States. They do this by engaging participants in service and community building that inspire them to become lifelong leaders for social change whose work for justice is rooted in and nourished by Jewish values.
